Ten Months, Fifty Posts

An editorial note from Mikko Kuisma, Editor of the Social Policy Blog.

Ten months ago today, on 25 November 2025, the Social Policy Blog relaunched after a period of inactivity. Fifty posts later, this seems a good moment to pause.

The Social Policy Blog is the companion blog to the three journals published by Cambridge University Press for the Social Policy Association: the Journal of Social Policy, Social Policy and Society, and the Journal of International and Comparative Social Policy. All posts we publish are based on articles from our three journals, and the balance between them has been close to even: nineteen from JSP, seventeen from SPS, and fourteen from JICSP.

In the posts we have published since the relaunch, family policy, gender equality, parental leave and care come up more often than anything else, followed by inequality, poverty, and welfare reform. But what strikes me looking back is the range. We have covered basic income, food banks, dementia care, hygiene poverty, inheritance tax, disability quotas, NEETs, and climate adaptation, with cases running from Iraq to Ireland and from Taiwan to Portugal.

The spread of our authors is just as wide. The fifty posts have been written by contributors based in thirty countries across six continents. Many of our authors are in the UK, the Netherlands, Finland, Spain, Italy, Sweden, and Poland, but we have also published work from colleagues in Argentina, Mexico, the US, South Africa, China, Taiwan, Thailand, and Australia, alongside many others.

We have also become active on Bluesky and LinkedIn, and we have built a steady following across both platforms. Our readers and followers are spread across the globe, and the research we cover continues to matter to academic researchers, policymakers and practitioners, to campaigners, and to anyone who wants to know what the evidence actually says.

So, thank you: to every author who took the time to turn a peer-reviewed article into something a wider readership can pick up and use, usually while doing three other things. To the editors of the three journals, who have encouraged authors to submit their research for the blog and backed us throughout. And to our fantastic colleagues at Cambridge University Press for their support.
